PRICING AND PORTRAITS

Pricing on my paintings is based mostly on size, although this varies sometimes depending on complexity and process. Below are examples of paintings and drawings with varied size to price ratios. This gives an idea of pricing for portrait and commission work, paintings at galleries that represent me, and also for work that is currently available at my studio. The paintings shown in the ARTWORK section of this website give pricing with links to where they are currently available.

I am currently taking on portrait and commission work. Please contact me directly with queries at vermassa@gmail.com or phone me at (289) 213-2472

I painted this 20 x 20 inch double portrait of my Mum & Dad when I was living in New York City and attending the Art Students League. A painting this size is priced around $1800. Although this particular piece is no longer available, it gives a good idea of a figurative style with emotion and abstraction.

This 48 x 48 inch oil on acrylic portrait of Tony Dekker is being used as the newly released Great Lake Swimmers LP, “In Pieces: An Acoustic Retrospective”. This painting is currently available, $5000. It gives an idea of possibilities for portraits with a sort of painterly atmospheric psychedelia.

This large 72 x 48 inch oil painting titled Red Forest, sold, but a connection between figure and Nature prompts a lot of ideas for working in different sizes and colours…

This 20 x 16 inch painting of my nephew gives a good idea of a single half torso portrait capturing a mood and identity. A portrait this size is priced at around $1500. This painting is no longer available, but it gives an idea of portrait commission possibilities.

I have a series of paintings where viewers are seen usually from the back looking at a painting. A painting within a painting. This particular piece is 36 x 36 inches. It has since sold, but gives an idea of another possibility that at this size is priced at $3300.

Another example of a drawing portrait, $250-$400 depending on size and complexity.

This 2021 abstracted head painting based on the British painter, Frank Auerbach is a 40 x 30 inch oil over acrylic on panel. This painting is currently available and priced at $3300. It gives a solid example of possibilities for a head portrait with a lot of movement, abstraction, and layers.

I love painting large fresh splashy heads with loose colourful atmospheric abstraction. But where areas are precise and hold focal points. A 48 x 48 inch portrait commission is $5000. This particular painting sold, but gives an idea of what I could take on for another portrait commission.

Another example toward a drawing portrait, $250-$400 depending on size and complexity.

This 30 x 24 inch oil painting was sold, but is an example for portrait possibilities where identity and presence are embedded into an abstracted design with compositional movement and contrasted areas of form versus flat areas. A painting this size if priced at $2600.

A 36 x 36 inch oil over acrylic painting that gets at identity and style, but within an atmospheric setting that pays attention to abstraction and floating forms as much as detailing and description. A painting commission in this size for a single figure is priced at around $3300.

This large painting, Forest Skye, 72 x 42 inches is currently available at Canvas Gallery in Toronto for $6800. It’s also a good example toward a portrait commission in a larger size embracing specificity and detail with an abstracted and atmospheric allusion to an impressionist nature setting.

Shred!, oil on panel, 12 x 9 inches.

Here’s a small splashy head painting I made in 2017 that is no longer available, but gives a great example of a small 12 x 9 inch piece priced at $700 with a hit of colour and energetic brushstrokes with palette knife work.

This 8 x 8 inch portrait of George Floyd was painted in 2020. After it dried, I mailed the painting to the address of his family. Also an example of a small head portrait in a square 8 x 8 inch format that is priced at $600. A lot of energy with impressionist brush and palette knife work.

A darker painting with a lot of atmosphere and an abstracted setting where the figure is a small but powerful part of the composition. Paintings in this size of 30 x 40 inches are priced at around $3400. This particular painting has sold, but offers ideas toward commission possibilities.
